The Vermilion Valley Resort at Lake Edison is one of the best places to camp near the JMT. This beautiful lakeside campground is situated deep in a forested valley and offers spectacular views of Mt. Ritter, Banner Peak, and other spectacular landmarks.
The resort also offers hot showers, full RV hookups, cabins, a general store, and a restaurant with delicious food.
2. Granite Park
Granite Park is located halfway between Yosemite National Park and Mt Whitney and is one of the most popular campsites along the JMT. It has great views of Yosemite’s high country and is surrounded by an array of wildflowers during springtime.
There are several sites available for tent camping as well as two bear boxes where you can safely store your food overnight.
3. Red’s Meadow Campground & Pack Station
Red’s Meadow Campground & Pack Station is another great spot for camping on the JMT.
Situated at 8400 feet elevation near Mammoth Lakes CA, this campground offers visitors stunning views of Red’s meadow valley, as well as nearby Minarets Range and Mount Ritter—the highest peak in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains, range!
There are several sites available here for tent camping as well as access to showers and a general store that provides supplies needed for your journey ahead!
